Why Cambelt Matters

Don't wait for it to snap.

The cambelt (or timing belt) is one of the most critical components in your engine. It keeps the crankshaft and camshaft turning in perfect time. When it fails, valves and pistons collide — and the repair bill can rival the value of the car.

What happens if it fails?

On most modern interference engines, valves bend and pistons get damaged. Repair costs are often four-figure — and sometimes the engine is a write-off.

When should it be replaced?

Manufacturers specify intervals by mileage AND age (often 4–7 years). Heat, oil contamination and short journeys can shorten life. If you don't know its history — replace it.

Belt, tensioner, idlers and — where relevant — the water pump. A belt-only swap is false economy and risks repeat labour.

Why specialist work matters

Correct tooling, correct timing marks, torque to spec. A cambelt set even one tooth out can damage the engine within minutes.
